Issue Clipboard secondary panel allows moving issues within the structure, and, more importantly, between different structures. |
Cut and Paste
To cut the issues to the clipboard:
- Select the issues you want to cut. Either place the selection on the single issue, or use multiple select.
- Click the Cut button on the structure toolbar (or press Ctrl+x or Command+x). Selected issues will be marked with a small scissors icon and the Clipboard icon with the number of the cut issues will appear in the top right corner of the structure widget. The cut issues will not be removed from the structure.
After you have cut the issues, you can paste them either into the same structure or into a different structure. If you paste issues into the same structure, they will be Moved. If you paste issues into a different structure, they will be Merged (more on Merge soon).
To paste the clipboard contents:
- Select the issue the should precede the issues in the clipboard.
- Do one of the following:
- Either click Paste button on the toolbar (or press Ctrl+v or Command+v) to place the issues after the selected issue (as the siblings),
- or press Ctrl+Shift+v (or Command+Shift+v on Mac) to place the issues under the selected issue (as the children).
If the cut issue contained sub-issues, they will be moved with their parent.

You can click the Clipboard icon to see the secondary panel with the list of the issues in clipboard. |

If you need to copy the same set of issues to several different structures, you can use drag-and-drop operation to move the issues from the secondary panel to the main grid. In this case the issues will not be removed from the clipboard. |
Moving Issue Hierarchy Between Structures
The contents of the clipboard is preserved in the current browser window, which allows you to cut issues from one structure and paste them into another. (Or rather copy than cut - the issues in this case will not be removed from their original structure.)
To copy issues (with their sub-issues) from one structure to another:
- Open the structure to copy from and use Cut instructions explained above to fill the clipboard with the desired issues.
- In the same browser window, switch to a different structure (you can use Structure Board or any other JIRA page with Structure).
- Use the Paste instructions above to paste the issues from the clipboard.
Merging
When you paste issue hierarchy from a different structure, it's possible that the structure already contains some of the issues. In this case, iterative Merge is performed, where issue is either moved to a new position if it is present in the structure or added if it is not present.
There are two main scenarios for using the Issue Clipboard:
