TrackLink.NET is a Visual Studio add-in. After installation, you should see "Tracklink" menu item in the Tools menu. Also, you can enable/disable it in Tools | Add-in Manager.
The rest of the article describes what to do if you have followed all installation steps and still don't see Tracklink in Tools and Tools | Add-in Manager.

Check requirements

First of all, check that you are using Professional edition of Visual Studio. Express edition is not capable of running any add-ins.

Check folders where TrackLink.NET files have been copied

Visual Studio searches for add-ins in several folders. If add-in files are not located in one of them, Visual Studio won't see the add-in. TrackLink.NET uses Visual Studio Content Installer, which copies TrackLink.NET files to one of the default locations. On some installations, however, this folder may be not configured as an add-in folder. To see if this is the problem and to cope with it, follow these steps.

  1. Open Tools | Options | Environment | Add-in/Macros Security.
  2. Make sure that "Allow Add-in components to load" checkbox is selected.
  3. Look at the "Add-in File Paths". These are the locations where Visual Studio searches for add-in files. Check that one of these locations contains TrackLink.NET files. If no, you can either
    • copy TrackLink.NET files to one of these locations, or
    • add the location where TrackLink.NET files were put by the installer to the list.

To look up what do the values listed in "Add-in File Paths" mean, please see Microsoft documentation (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/1326zbk3.aspx). There is also an unofficial page that makes clear some inaccuracies in the official documentation and lists common problems (http://www.mztools.com/articles/2008/MZ2008001.aspx).
